What originally drew you into real estate, and what has kept you passionate about it over the years—especially in a community as personal as Coronado?
I was drawn to real estate because of my love of homes and my love of people. Buying or selling a home is not just a transaction; it represents chapters of people’s lives. In Coronado, that’s amplified. This is a town where history, family, and community matter deeply. What’s kept me passionate is the trust clients place in me during pivotal moments, and the privilege of helping them buy and sell homes in a place that means so much to so many generations, including my own.
How would you describe the McKay & Associates client experience from the very first conversation to well after closing?
It begins with listening. Before we talk strategy, pricing, or timing, we want to understand our clients’ goals, concerns, and what success truly looks like for them. From there, the experience is proactive, highly organized, and calm. Clients know what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what’s coming next. After closing, the relationship doesn’t end. We remain a resource, an advisor, and often a sounding board for years to come.
What types of clients or transactions do you feel you serve best, and why do you think that is?
We serve clients who value thoughtfulness, preparation, and discretion. Many are navigating complex decisions—whether that’s a legacy property, a relocation, or discretion. I think we serve them well because we’re not transactional in our mindset. We take the time to get to know our clients and what matters most to them.
How does your deep, multigenerational connection to Coronado influence the advice and guidance you give your clients?
It gives context that can’t be learned from data alone. We understand the nuances of the various neighborhoods of Coronado, how the town evolves seasonally, and which decisions tend to hold value over time, both financially and personally. That perspective allows us to guide clients not just on what a property is worth today, but how it may fit into their lives and goals years down the road.
In a market where many agents focus on volume, how do you define success for your business and for your clients?
Success for our business is building lasting relationships, earning repeat and referral clients, and maintaining a reputation for integrity and results. For clients, it’s knowing they made informed decisions and felt supported throughout the process.
What does “luxury” mean to you in real estate—beyond price point—and how do you deliver on that consistently?
Luxury is attention. It’s anticipation, discretion, and execution at a high level. It’s making a complex process feel seamless. We deliver that through meticulous preparation, tailored strategies, and a commitment to being accessible, responsive, and deeply invested in each client’s outcome, regardless of price point.
How do you approach pricing, preparation, and positioning a home so that sellers feel confident they have a real plan, not just hope?
Every decision is grounded in data, market context, and buyer psychology. We collaborate closely with sellers on pricing strategy, prepare the home so it presents at its absolute best, and position it with intention and maximum exposure. Sellers know the rationale behind every recommendation, which creates confidence and alignment from day one.
What role does discretion play in your business, particularly with high-profile or privacy-focused clients?
Discretion is foundational. Many of our clients value privacy as much as results. That means controlled marketing, careful communication, and a deep respect for confidentiality. Trust is everything in those relationships, and we protect it relentlessly.
How has leading a small, high-performing team shaped the way you work with clients compared to being a solo agent?
It allows us to deliver a higher level of service. Each team member brings expertise and focus, which means nothing falls through the cracks. Clients benefit from collective experience while still having a clear point of contact and a cohesive strategy. It allows McKay and Associates to deliver personal attention with strong operational support.
When someone chooses to work with McKay & Associates, what do you hope they say about the experience a year—or even five years—later?
We hope they say they felt cared for, well-advised, and respected. That we helped them make a decision, they still feel good about years later. We hope that when real estate comes up in conversation, we’re the first team they recommend, without hesitation.
