1) What originally drew you into real estate, and what has kept you passionate over the years—especially in a community as personal as Coronado?

I was drawn to real estate because I genuinely love helping people through meaningful life moments—and buying or selling a home is one of the biggest. Before real estate, I worked in a high-end luxury hotel environment in Hawaii, where I learned the essence of discretion, anticipatory service, and what it really means to make someone feel cared for. That experience shaped how I show up for clients today: calm, prepared, and deeply attentive.

What keeps me passionate is that I don’t just sell homes—I help people find a place that fits their life. In Coronado Village, that can mean walking a family through school options and neighborhood feel, or helping someone secure a second home where their kids and grandkids can build traditions for years. Coronado is personal. It’s a small town with a big heart, and I love being a guide to luxury Coronado real estate, the coastal lifestyle, and everything that makes this corner of coastal San Diego so special.

2) How would you describe the McKay & Associates client experience from the very first conversation to well after closing?

Our client experience is rooted in one simple thing: we genuinely care. From the first conversation, we focus on listening—because every client’s needs, timing, and comfort level are different. Then we bring clarity: education, strategy, and thoughtful guidance so decisions feel confident, not overwhelming.

For buyers, that means educating you on what truly matters in Coronado Village—from schools and walkability to beaches, lifestyle, and the subtle differences between micro-neighborhoods. For sellers, it means positioning your home in the market with intention: pricing strategy, presentation, and a marketing plan that reflects the standards of luxury real estate in Coronado.

And we don’t disappear after closing. Whether it’s connecting you with trusted vendors, sharing local insights, or helping you settle into the rhythm of coastal San Diego living, we stay in your corner long after the keys change hands.

3) What types of clients or transactions do you feel you serve best, and why?

We truly love serving all types of clients, and we’re honored to be a trusted resource no matter where someone is in their journey.

First-time home buyers are incredibly fulfilling—there’s nothing like helping someone buy their first home and watching that milestone become real. At the same time, Coronado is also a place where many families look for a second or third home—somewhere to create summers, holidays, and long weekends together. Helping those clients is equally meaningful because you’re not just buying a property—you’re investing in time with family.

Whether it’s a primary residence, a legacy purchase, or a second home, our role is the same: provide clear guidance, strong negotiation, and a high-touch experience aligned with the expectations of a luxury realtor in Coronado.

4) How does your deep, multigenerational connection to Coronado influence the advice and guidance you give your clients?

Coronado isn’t just where I work—it’s home. I’m a fifth-generation Coronado resident, and that multigenerational connection gives me a long-view understanding of the community: how the neighborhoods live day-to-day, what changes over time, and what stays timeless.

That perspective helps clients in practical ways—like understanding street-by-street nuances in Coronado Village, which pockets feel quieter, which areas are more walkable, where families tend to gather, and what lifestyle you’ll actually have once you move in. It also helps when clients want more than home features—they want the feel of a place. My job is to help you choose not only a home, but a community you’ll love living in, in one of the most special parts of coastal San Diego.

5) In a market where many agents focus on volume, how do you define success for your business and for your clients?

Success for us is not measured by how many transactions we do—it’s measured by how well we serve people. I’d rather do fewer transactions at the highest level than treat clients like numbers.

For clients, success looks like clarity, confidence, and a result that matches the goal: the right home, the right terms, the right strategy, and a process that feels supported from start to finish. In luxury Coronado real estate, details matter—communication, timing, discretion, negotiation, and preparation. When clients feel calm and cared for throughout the process, that’s success.

6) What does “luxury” mean to you in real estate—beyond price point—and how do you deliver on that consistently?

To me, luxury isn’t a price tag—it’s a standard. Luxury is a client feeling fully supported, never rushed, and always protected. It’s proactive communication. It’s anticipating needs before they’re spoken. It’s knowing when to lean in and when to keep things quiet. And it’s curating solutions with care and discretion.

In Coronado luxury real estate, delivering luxury means bringing a refined process: strategic planning, strong vendor relationships, polished presentation, and thoughtful negotiation. Consistency is everything. Our clients should feel the same high level of service whether they’re buying their first home or purchasing a legacy property in Coronado Village.

7) How do you approach pricing, preparation, and positioning a home so sellers feel confident they have a real plan, not just hope?

At McKay & Associates we believe “hope is not a plan,” especially when it comes to selling a home. A successful sale starts with a clear strategy: accurate pricing, thoughtful preparation, and positioning that matches the market and the buyer pool.

We begin by studying data and buyer behavior in Coronado real estate, but we also look beyond the numbers—condition, layout, natural light, lot orientation, and what comparable homes felt like to buyers. Then we create a preparation plan tailored to the home: staging guidance, design-forward touchups when it makes sense, and photography and marketing that reflect the expectations of luxury real estate in Coronado.

Sellers feel confident because they know exactly what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and how it supports the end goal: the best possible result with the least amount of stress.

8) What role does discretion play in your business, particularly with high-profile or privacy-focused clients?

Discretion is foundational to how I work—always has been. It’s something I learned early in luxury hospitality: privacy and professionalism are not “extras,” they’re the baseline.

In luxury Coronado real estate, many clients value confidentiality, quiet showings, and a careful approach to marketing. We tailor the plan to the client—sometimes that’s broader exposure, and sometimes it’s strategic, private outreach. Either way, our goal is the same: protect our client’s comfort and privacy while still achieving a strong outcome.

9) How has leading a small, high-performing team shaped the way you work with clients compared to being a solo agent?

A small, high-performing team allows us to deliver a level of service that’s hard to replicate alone. Clients get the best of both worlds: a personal relationship with me, plus a responsive, organized support system behind the scenes.

That means stronger communication, better follow-through, and more bandwidth for details—from scheduling and vendor coordination to marketing execution and transaction management. In a market like Coronado Village and greater coastal San Diego, clients expect excellence and efficiency. Our team structure lets us provide that consistently while keeping the experience warm, personal, and highly attentive.

10) When someone chooses to work with McKay & Associates, what do you hope they say about the experience a year—or even five years—later?

I hope they say, “We felt taken care of.” Not just during the transaction—but after. I want clients to remember that the process felt calm, clear, and well-managed. That they felt heard. That they trusted the advice. That they were protected in negotiation. And that the experience reflected the standard they were looking for in a luxury realtor in Coronado.

Five years later, I hope they say, “We ended up exactly where we were meant to be.” Whether that’s a full-time home in Coronado Village or a place their family returns to year after year, I want the impact to last far beyond closing day.
